Healing Comes in Many Ways
As the year 2019 comes to a close, I reflect on a year full of challenges and victories. This year has brought smiles and tears to the hearts of us all. Moreover, every one of us has had either self or a loved one challenged with sicknesses, diseases, or acute accidents. Yet, there is a light that shines in the midst of trouble. There is hope when there seems to be none.
The articles this week all center around the subject of healing. In this issue, you will find some amazing stories about people all over the world who could have given up hope; yet, they believed in hope and their results are truly inspirational.
As you read the encouragements and make assessments about the new year, be sure to keep hope and faith in focus and in the center of your plans and goals. There are greater days ahead of you and you will need your hope and faith to realize them.
Four Incurable Diseases...Gone!
After years of being sick, this woman professes divine healing from four incurable diseases. What is more amazing is the doctor who sent her home to die documented and marveled at her recovery.
Her testimony gives hope to those who have been battling sickness for years. She battled herself for 12 years. Yet, step by step, through prayer and faith, she believed God would heal her. Her pivotal moment was when she heard the voice of God say, "Don't take the medicine." She obeyed and immediately received strength in her body and was completely made whole,
One Night of Prayer Changed This Woman's Life
Crohn's disease is said to be incurable; yet, this woman has experienced miraculous healing.
In 2008, she was diagnosed with the progressive disease; yet she had great support from her friends and family. After the shock, she chose to believe her God in faith and said, "I was especially encouraged by Psalm 103, which encouraged me not to forget all God’s benefits, and that he can heal any disease,” she said. “I began to remember answers to my prayers for other people who had been healed and put my faith in God for my own healing.”
She had grown accustomed to taking medication to manage her symptoms and trusted in them as a security blanket. But, going to a women's weekend prayer retreat in the spring of 2011, she completely forgot to bring them. What left her vulnerable turned out to be the opportunity for healing she and her friends had been praying and believing God for.
She had an episode after teaching a session at the retreat, rushing to her room in pain. The ladies at the retreat followed her to her room and prayed for her until her symptoms calmed. In fact, she was so calm she was able to rest and sleep. She slept through dinner and all night. When she woke up, she was completely symptom free--as it turned out completely healed and disease free!
A Mother's Faith
This mother detected something wrong with her 31-year old daughter before anyone else. Her daughter's ailment was not investigated by doctors until she had a major seizure that put her in a coma for seven months.
Though the situation looked grim, this mom was steadfast in her hope and advocacy for her daughter. During her daughter's time in the coma, this mom refused to take her off life support. She knew her daughter would wake up. When she received the end of life reports from the doctors, she just moved her daughter to another hospital, not once, not twice, but three times. Her undying faith and hope saved her daughter's life.
Finally, this mom found a team that would do everything within their power to keep her daughter alive and help her get better. Her mother believed she would see her daughter whole again. She did. Her daughter opened her eyes---seven months later.
All We Want for Christmas is A Baby!
The full gestation for a baby in her mommy's womb is 40 weeks. That's nearly year! Although most women do not find out they are pregnant until they miss a period, they still have significant time--nearly 30 weeks--to prepare for a new baby in the family. A couple in Southaven, Tennessee, with medical complications, were trying to get pregnant and were wonderfully surprised to find out they successfully conceived, nine days before the baby's due date. You read that right. This mom did not know she was pregnant until nine days before she gave birth. In her words, "There was no time to be stressed out about it." Her desire to be pregnant came to be long before she and her husband realized it.
She delivered the baby and both mom and baby are doing well.
Music Therapy Heals Children
Though Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico more than two years ago, children are still dealing with the emotional aftermath--post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Puerto Rico Rise Up is a nonprofit organization that is getting creative bringing resources and answers to deal with this problem.
Puerto Rico Rise Up is offering art therapy that is showing signs of success. Through dance, music, and painting, the children are identifying their feelings and able to handle conflict, expressing themselves in a way that is more productive.
This program is helping children in nearly 10,000 schools after it was reported that 7.2 percent of them were suffering from PTSD months after the storm.
A Canine That Heals Hearts
To heal the hearts of troubled children, adopt a therapy dog. After receiving letters from her 1st-grade class, the vice principal of Reeths-Puffer Elementary School in Muskegon, Michigan did just that. She was so impressed with the children's persuasive argument, she went in search of the perfect therapy dog to adopt from the local animal shelter. In a short time, she found the perfect dog for the job.
The success of getting a therapy dog for this local Michigan elementary school has been truly divine. Not only has the therapy dog been able to uplift the spirits of children with depression, but he has also been able to calm students with behavioral issues who are having meltdowns in class. Further, he cheers up teachers who have had rough moments with at-risk students. This canine therapy dog was just what the doctor ordered for this elementary school.
They Two Shall Be One...Literally!
One of the traditional wedding vows is to commit love for one another in sickness and in health. This Kentwood, Michigan husband took his vows to heart when his wife was diagnosed with Stage 5 kidney disease which is end stage renal disease (ESRD). At this stage, one must have dialysis, or an organ transplant in order to survive.
This valiant husband insisted he would be an organ donor match for his wife even though the medical team thought it was highly unlikely. This husband was right--he was a perfect match for his bride. The medical staff was stunned because a marital match is highly improbable. Yet, this couple is compatible both emotionally and physically. A rare and precious gift.
The organ donor surgery was performed just in time for Christmas. The surgery went well and the couple is recovering.
