Editor's Note

I know that working toward something and getting knocked down or experiencing a setback is hard. I also know that sometimes to those around us, it can seem like the goal we are reaching for is insane or doesn't make sense. But I want to encourage you to keep working toward your goals and don't give in to the feeling of being crazy; some of the best things just take time to achieve.

Positivity in Practice

Perseverance, not insanity...

"Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results." This quote is often attributed to Albert Einstein, and I am sure you have heard it before. This week I want to talk about it because sometimes I think the meaning behind this phrase is misinterpreted. Repetition alone is not insanity, and sometimes we can convince ourselves and others that our goals aren't worth pursuing because we weren't able to achieve them the first, second, third, fourth, or even the fifth time. That simply isn't true.

Sometimes we have to do the same things over and over again, improving and learning little by little to achieve our goals. The most common example of this is practice; whether it is a sport, instrument, or other activity, there are lots of things in our lives that require dedicated repetition to learn and improve a skill. So don't let your detractors convince you that you're crazy. You're not. You have the drive, and the more you work at it, the better you are going to get.

So here's your homework: every time you want to through in the towel or give up because you feel crazy, tell yourself, "let's try again one more time" until you win. You'll get there, I believe in you.

Email us and let us know how it goes. We may feature you in a future issue.
