These Innovative Housing Projects Increase Affordability on a Major Scale
The Institute of Global Homelessness (IGH) is one of the first international organizations to focus its efforts on homelessness as a global phenomenon, working especially to help those living on the street or in homeless shelters.
Their mission is to create a world where everyone has a home that offers security, safety, autonomy, and opportunity. IGH works toward that goal with an innovative mix of program interventions, well-coordinated local systems, and effective policies that can be scaled, connected, and accelerated internationally to reduce and end homelessness on the world stage.
Video: Wildlife crossings built with tribal knowledge drastically reduce collisions
In 1989, when the Montana Department of Transportation proposed a plan to address safety concerns on Montana’s notoriously dangerous Highway 93, their answer was to expand it to five lanes.
Community tribal members raised concerns about how such a road could pose more danger, not just for wildlife, but also for children and school buses that cross the highway. The protection of wildlife is also part of a generational duty that tribes take upon themselves to maintain a healthy ecosystem and nurture the connection to their culture.
So they came up with a different plan.
