Editor's Note

Everyday we make choices about how we want to live, to be treated and will treat others, and will response to the actions and circumstances around.

We have a lot more power in those choice than we think. Let’s take this opportunity to choose hope, happiness and joy. This weeks stories are all about people who made those small but critical choices that make all the difference in how we experience life. I hope these stories will inspire you to find the ways you can chose hope in your own life.

About Us

Solace in Strangers

Will Buckingham and Elee Kirk traveled the world together and opened their home to fellow travelers whenever they could. These two things brought them immense joy, and when Elee began losing her battle with breast cancer, she made her promise to continue to travel and keep the doors of their home open when she died. Will had a choice keep the promise he made to his wife and live life with an open heart or close himself off in his grief.

Lending an Ear

Sometimes all you need is for someone to answer the phone at the right time. For one woman recovering from recent surgery, that someone was the operator on duty at her local Area Agency on Aging. She was having a hard time adjusting and needed help getting around her house with some everyday tasks and that made her so restless she couldn’t sleep. So she reached out for help, expecting to leave a message but instead, she was able to speak to someone who took the time to listen to her story, answer her questions and help start finding the resources she needed.

A phone call that likely only lasted a few minutes was exactly what this woman needed. Imagine what would happen if we all took the time to really listen and help each other every day.

Family by Choice

For many children in the foster care system, all they want is family again. 27 children had their dreams come true in six courtrooms across Kent County, Michigan when their adoptions were finalized. All the children were given a chance to say why they wanted their adoptions finalized, and one of the children said simply “They’re my family.”

That beautiful and simple statement is what it is all about. As much as family can be and is by blood, it is also the bonds we chose to forge and cherish.

Positivity in Practice

So, how did it feel, taking a moment to consciously be thankful every day? It felt good, right? If you didn’t get the chance to try it out last time, I highly encourage you to try it this week; it can be a real game-changer. Especially because it helps refocus on the good things in your life.

Now, for this week’s positivity in practice, let try spreading that good feeling around. With the holiday season in full swing, it is easy to be kind and share our love with close friends and family. But it is also a perfect opportunity to reach out to those we haven’t talked to in a while.

That’s the mission, reach out to three people you’ve lost touch with and share some love and kindness with them. You’ll be glad you did.

Thanks for reading and spending these few precious and positive moments with us. Remember that a small act of kindness could radically change you or someone else’s life.

Have a wonderful day,

Asja
